Excerpt
Introduction: Responsibility for food safety is shared among all stakeholders, from producers and distributors to caterers and consumers. Ensuring that consumers? health and consumers? interests are adequately guaranteed requires the input of many organisations and individuals both within regulatory agencies and the food industry. In recent years, numerous countries have reorganised their official or regulatory food controls systems. Often the emergence of single national agencies has been the result. At the same time, the concept of a national strategy for food safety control has gained prominence. The need for such a strategy has been founded on a situational analysis, the realisation that current food control systems, both public and private lack overall coherence and synergy. The development of a national food safety strategy can strengthen and integrate food control systems to protect consumer health, prevent fraud and deception, avoid food adulteration and facilitate trade economic growth.
