Excerpt: In remarks to laboratory employees, Secretary Abraham announced the decision by President George W. Bush that the United States will join the negotiations for the construction and operation of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a major international magnetic fusion research project. He praised PPPL staff for advancing the promise of fusion energy and stressed that ?it is imperative we maintain and enhance our strong domestic research program? and that ?critical science needs to be done in the U.S., in parallel with ITER.?
