In probability theory and statistics, a probability distribution identifies either the probability of each value of a random variable (when the variable is discrete), or the probability of the value falling within a particular interval (when the variable is continuous). The probability distribution describes the range of possible values that a random variable can attain and the probability that the value of the random variable is within any (measurable) subset of that range.

Description: The probability distributions of field
where the variable x(t) may denote any solar wind scalar field or
vector field component at time t, have been calculated from time series
of Helios data obtained in 1976 at heliocentric distances near 0.3 AU. It is
found that for comparatively long time lag τ, ranging from a few hours
to 1 day, the differences are normally distr...
Description: School of Natural and Built Environments, University of South Australia, Adelaide, Australia. The wide variability of hydrological losses in catchments is due to
multiple variables that affect the rainfall-runoff process.
Accurate estimation of hydrological losses is required for making
vital decisions in design applications that are based on design
rainfall models and rainfall-runoff models. Using representative
single values of losses, despite th...

Description: Space Research Institute, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Graz, Austria. The observed scale dependence of the probability distributions of the
differences of characteristic solar wind variables is analyzed.
Intermittency of the turbulent fluctuations at small-scale spatial
separations is accompanied by strongly non-Gaussian distributions
that turn into a normal distribution for large-scale separation.
Conventional theoretical models are subject to insuffi...
Description: Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Istituto di Ricerca per la Protezione Idrogeologica, Perugia, via Madonna Alta 126, 06128 Perugia, Italy. We examine 19 datasets with measurements of landslide volume, VL, for
sub-aerial, submarine, and extraterrestrial mass movements. Individual
datasets include from 17 to 1019 landslides of different types, including
rock fall, rock slide, rock avalanche, soil slide, slide, and debris flow,

Excerpt: Digital line graph (DLG) data are digital representations of cartographic information. DLG’s of map features are digital vectors converted from maps and related sources. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) DLG data are classified as large, intermediate, and small scale.
